Our Expert Manager

  • Marie-Claire Foale

    MANAGER

    01752 663626

Marie-Claire is the Registered Manager of Seymour Court Nursing Home, a multi-award-winning nursing home specialising in end-of-life care situated in the heart of Mannamead. Marie-Claire’s experience in the care industry spans decades; she grew up in a family run home, which equipped her with the passion for caring for and empowering the elderly at the end of their lives, and the firm belief in dignity when dying.

Marie-Claire studied art at Central St Martin’s University in London, and later, Bezelel College in Jerusalem and Plymouth University gaining a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design. She used her skills as both a carer and art practitioner and combined this with the creativity and innovation her higher education had fostered, working in art-therapy in nursing and residential settings in Hertfordshire for many years. On returning to Plymouth, Marie-Claire continued to work in nursing homes, developing her care practice and undertaking further education in dementia studies. Her experience continued to be informed by her creativity, compassion and commitment to delivering exceptional care, when she joined the team at Seymour Court as Registered Manager six years ago.

During her time at Seymour Court, the home has won six regional awards and four national awards at the Great British

Care Awards, including for Activities Co-Ordinator, Dignity and Care, and Palliative Care Home of the Year. Under Marie-Claire’s management, Seymour Court has also won the Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year twice at the National Care Awards and were national runners up for the Care Team of the Year and Nutrition and Hydration. In the same period, Marie-Claire has also completed an NVQ in Management at level five, an NVQ in Leadership and Management at level five, and the St Luke’s Hospice Six Steps course. She is committed to best practice, leading by example and encouraging her staff to take every opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of how best to empower the residents under their care.

Marie-Claire feels extremely privileged to work with a team who share her vision for a home where residents are supported in making decisions about their care, encouraged to pursue their passions, and given the freedom and opportunity to flourish in their final years. The team at Seymour Court demonstrate an exemplary ability to deliver hope and dignity in a palliative setting. Their phenomenal skill and approach provide the opportunity for close work between residents and staff, enabling the individual to reach acceptance of the dying process and fulfilling wishes in accordance with religious, cultural, and personal preferences.

  • During the 15 months of my stay, I was treated expertly at all times. Even though my initial behaviour was extremely challenging. Sent from Derriford Hospital as an end-of-life patient unknown to me, thanks to the love and excellent treatment of all at Seymour court I'm now living in an extra care retirement home. I owe my life to them, words can't convey the love and respect I have for them all. They are a wonderful group of dedicated people. My eternal thanks to them all.

    5* Overall Experience - Roger M (Resident)

  • Mum has a really lovely seven-week period of respite care at Seymour Court. All the staff were incredibly warm and friendly, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The home itself was clean and well-maintained, and Mum's room was bright and airy. The meals looked delicious, and there was a constant supply of tea and cake. As a family member, I was always made to feel welcome visiting regularly. It was so reassuring to know Mum was in a safe and caring place.

5* Overall Experience - Chris G (Son of Resident)

  • My father was at this fantastic home for 19 months until his death on September 25th. All the staff are so caring and treat the residents like family. The manager is very professional, and the head nurse is a remarkable lady. She did a long shift to be with Dad until the end, something I will never forget. As I live away, I couldn't visit as often as I would have liked, but knew Dad was comfortable and well cared for. The food is great; Dad loved Friday fish and chip day with mushy peas. Seymour Court is so special - to give them 100% is not enough. I will never forget all you have done for my dad; thanks to every one of you.

5* Overall Experience - Sandra R (Daughter of Resident)

  • My husband received end of life care in this wonderful home. The staff are so supportive, nothing was ever too much trouble, they work together and make a great team. The nurses are also very knowledgeable, always on hand to answer any queries, all led by a very competent and caring manager. The food is cooked fresh daily and is delicious, thanks to two very talented chefs. In such a difficult time, Seymour Court became our port in the storm, we are so thankful to all the staff for the exceptional care and support, not only for my husband but for us also

5* Overall Experience - Tracy D (Wife of Resident)
