A GREAT grandmother of eight has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Gwen Gilbert, who lives at Charlton House, in Mannamead, has lived in Plymouth for most of her life.
The day was celebrated with a party, cake and drinks at the home, and Gwen, who has three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, was joined by family for the party.
Born in Millbrook, she was one of six sisters, and attended Victoria Road Primary School in St Budeaux.
After the war, Gwen lived in one of the first prefabs to be built at West Park.
When these were demolished, she lived in Ramillies Avenue in West Park and used to go into Plymouth nearly every day on the bus to meet friends.
She was also very particular about her garden, according to family, and liked the grass to be cut regularly.
Taylia Munns, manager at Charlton House said: "We had a great day and Gwen's grandson, niece and cousin joined the party."
