Choosing a care home can be difficult, with an estimated 5,153 nursing homes and 12,525 residential homes in the UK to choose from. The daughters of Gwen Squibb, resident at Greenacres decided that the care that Mannamead provided was the best.
Visited by her daughters every day, who join in with a variety of activities, including the Christmas Show, Gwen has now been at the home for just over two years. “Since the day I moved in, both myself and daughters have received plenty of support, emotionally and physically. My favourite activities are all the trips we go on, especially sitting by the sea, having a cream tea. I love to bake and arrange flowers, but sitting outside, overlooking the acres of garden is the best of all.”
Karen Farouqa, Area Manager at Mannamead Care, explains; “We understand that the process of deciding to place a family member or friend into a care home can be a very stressful and sometimes upsetting ordeal, therefore we make sure that we give as much support to the family members, as we do the residents”.
By providing mentoring and guidance to family members, it creates trust and openness between the residents, families and staff. “Everyone looks out for one another; Greenacres is so family orientated, they are our extended family”, agree family members of the residents.
If you are considering making a move to Greenacres, Gwen says; “It is very homely and friendly. The food is excellent and we are kept busy with lots of activities. I have plenty of friends that are both residents and staff, and I cannot fault the roast!”
